Wonder, Awe and Thankfulness!

Thursday, April 30th, 2009

I Love these words – to be in WONDER – to be in AWE and to be full of THANKFULNESS.  Kind of reminds me of what little children experience as they go about their day trying to figure out their world around them – so free, secure and trusting.

I’ve been pondering these words for quite some time now and have been moving from a serious, weighed down almost unhappy way of living life to a more upbeat, expectant and silly way of looking at things around me. It’s like I’ve aloud myself to experience things in a more light-hearted, little kid way again and it’s so much more fun this way!

Listening to the upbeat songs from our “You Are Thumbuddy” kid’s CD helps put me in the “little kid” mindset. As you can tell from my past blogging, I’ve been doing things more often that seem a little odd or ridiculous and I’m starting to like it because it causes me to giggle inside and changes the way I see things that are happening around me.

Maybe some of you have been feeling overwhelmed, pressured or weighted down with daily life and are looking for some ideas of how to break free of that.  Jesus teaches us the importance of becoming like little children in Matthew 18:3-4  He called a little child and had him stand among them. And he said: “I tell you the truth, unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven. Therefore, whoever humbles himself like this child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven.

I pray, Lord, you will help each of us become more childlike in nature – more secure in you, Lord, and who you made us to be, more in wonder of the World around us more dependent and trusting of you for all that we need. Lord help those of us who have gotten weighted down with such seriousness in life that we have forgotten how to laugh more and enjoy all that you have given each one of us. – I pray more of you and your joy upon every person reading this - in Jesus name I pray, AMEN!

By the way — our ThumbPeople books and CD’s are not only for kids – they have an amazing way of helping you bond with your children and at the same time help you to be more aware of the amazing plans and purposes God has always had for you . . . His child!

How Beautiful You Are!

Thursday, April 23rd, 2009

We all have days (or sometimes weeks) where we may not feel so wonderful or beautiful. Even in those times where we don’t think we are – guess who does think you are.  You got it – our Father God sees us as beautiful.

You see one way – He sees another.  Who do you want to believe?  Yourself or Him, the one who knows all?  Of course we want to believe Him but sometimes we struggle with how to believe Him.

Try this one simple action.  Sit down in a quiet place.  Open your bible to Psalm 139. Focus on verses 17-18:

How precious are your thoughts about me, O God.
They cannot be numbered!
I can’t even count them;
They outnumber the grains of sand!
And when I wake up,
you are still with me!

WOW – do you realize what the God of all creation is saying to us. He has so many precious thoughts about each one of us – more than the grains of sand. We can’t even count the grains of sand yet God has that many thoughts about us!

Now take a piece of paper and pen.  Read this scripture again and ASK God to tell you what some of these thoughts are that He has about you.  God wants to answer this question and tell you – as a matter of fact He cannot wait to share these thoughts with you.  Sit quietly, listen and just start writing.

The first time I tried this exercise it felt awkward, I was also afraid He wasn’t going to show up but He surprised me (as He loves to do) and it was amazing the thoughts He had about me – I remember shedding a lot of tears at the time but yet feeling so close to Him and truly loved by Him.

One idea I have for you is try listening to one of our soaking CD’s; Words of Love, Words of Encouragement, Words of Healing or Alone with God before you try the exercise above. The graceful music along with scriptural truths and promises spoken draws you into a quiet place where you are open to listen and receive.

Lord, my prayer for all those reading this is you will help them to take time with you. Help them to get up the courage to ASK you what it is you think about them and that each person would be overtaken by your love and your thoughts about each one of them. Bless them this day – in Jesus name I pray – AMEN!

Smile . . . even if you don’t feel like it!

Monday, April 13th, 2009
Thumbuddy always shares his smile!

Thumbuddy always shares his smile!

You may have heard the saying that a SMILE is a universal language that anyone can interpret no matter the country you come from and of course there are scientific/medical related reports that show when you smile it releases endorphins and other wonderful chemicals in your body that can actually elevate your mood.

I want to keep this simple so I looked up the word SMILE in the dictionary:

•    SMILE - Make pleasant expression with mouth – to raise the corners of the mouth in an expression of amusement, happiness, pleasure or approval.

Have you ever tried smiling when you don’t feel like it? I’m telling you it’s extremely powerful and you ought to try it. I’ve been doing this lately – even when I’m by myself – I’ll think of the word SMILE and do it - I can’t help but  laugh out loud because it seems so ridiculous yet it has become so healing at the same time.

I’ve also started to practice this outside of being alone – if I go to the grocery store, and again even if I don’t feel like it, I will look at someone and smile – it’s been so much fun – I feel like I’m on a “SMILE MISSION” and what’s been even more fun is I really believe I’m sharing a piece of who God is – His love - with every person I smile at.

Kids are especially affected by smiles — ever since my kids were babies I would constantly smile at them – even when I was sad or didn’t feel like it. Smiling at little ones is a sign to them of approval and love that crosses over any language barrier and what is more rewarding than seeing those little ones smile back.

The key here is smile ….. even if you don’t feel like it! So try it today – no matter where you are at – and you will sense the presence of the Lord and His love for both you and the person you are smiling at!

Lord, I pray that you would help us all know that you are constantly smiling at us – help us to envision you smiling at us with your utmost love and approval and help us to remember that you gave us the ability to share this love so easily with those around us without even speaking a word – in Jesus name I pray! AMEN.

Have a wonderful day!

God Loves Me

Monday, April 6th, 2009

WOW! What a great saying. “God Loves Me.” Try saying it out loud right now and then do it again and again. It might seem like an awkward thing to do but do it anyway! Come on - stop for 5 seconds and say out loud to yourself  “God Loves Me” at least 3 times. You can hardly say this without cracking a smile or shedding a tear or two when this realization that He does love you really enters in.

We need this reminder all day long - I know I do. I need to remember He’s not mad or disappointed at me or doesn’t think I’m a failure but instead He is madly in love with me and is in great anticipation of spending time with me! When I start acknowledging this truth and saying these words to myself, everything starts to change and a real joy starts kicking in.

So throughout the day today, take time to remember that God loves you so much - say it out loud as many times as you can - see what happens - you have nothing to lose and a lot to gain!

If you’d like another idea about how to get this truth deep, deep inside so you really believe it, try listening to soaking prayer music. I listen to Words of Love, Words of Blessing and Words of Healing when I need a reminder of what God thinks about me and how He sees me - it sure helps to change the way I see myself and my relationship with our Creator in Heaven!

My prayer for every person reading this is that the love of the Father would infiltrate your heart so mightily that you would know that you know that He is madly in love with you and sees you as precious and beautiful in Jesus name I pray - AMEN!!!

Have a wonderful day!
