"As the nursery coordinator at my church, I'm always looking for something unique to teach the church of tomorrow. Children are sponges. They want to know everything we can possibly tell them. They want to know God. They want to love God. And they want to know that they are loved and cherished by God, and us.
Imagine my delight when I was introduced to the ThumbPeople preschool curriculum! I received the first lesson and looked it over carefully before taking it to church to test on the kids. I immediately loved what I saw and couldn't wait to share it with them!
The CD is full of fun songs that confirm how special and unique each child is. The kids loved doing the motions to one of them and a few were even singing along after only hearing it a couple of times! I loved that it laid out everything I should say to the children and how to present the material. There are a lot of activities to do, but in short amounts of time that easily cater to the short attention spans of my 3 & 4 year olds. They especially loved sharing with me a special quality about themselves to write in the creases of "their" thumb! One little boy said, "I smile to people!" So sweet! They listened intently to the Thumbuddy You book that came with the program and wanted me to read it again. Imagine their surprise when I added one of their names to each page as I read it through the second time!
After some singing and reading the children were excited to paint their hands and put a handprint on the big "mural" we made. The top read "I AM A MIRACLE" in big, bold letters and each child was allowed to put their handprint under it along with their name. They loved having mom and dad come in and find their special handprint. They also each left showing off their red thumb from the stamp pad we used to make thumbprints to compare!"
Another great aspect of the ThumbPeople curriculum is that it offers several coloring sheets to go along with the lesson. These were perfect time fillers at the beginning and the end of class. I also included one in each of their take-home bags along with a card for parents that explained what we learned and offered a few extra activities to do with their child at home.
